Let’s talk about Mr. Beast. The man who has now become the most watched person in the world on YouTube. The man who has garnered a massive following and who seemingly can do no wrong in the eyes of his fans. But let me ask you this: what is the allure of Mr. Beast? Why has he become the poster child for success on YouTube, when his content isn’t exactly mind-blowing or addicting?
I’ve gone through Mr. Beast’s extensive library of videos, and I have to admit, I don’t get it. Sure, he does some charitable things, like giving away money or cars to his friends and strangers. But is that really enough to warrant the kind of attention and adoration he receives? Is that really all it takes to become the most watched person in the world?
Or perhaps, it’s not Mr. Beast himself that’s the problem. Perhaps it’s YouTube that’s using him as their marketing ploy. Maybe they want people to believe that anyone can achieve success on their platform, so they’re using Mr. Beast as their golden boy. They’re showcasing him as the ultimate example of what can be achieved on YouTube, in order to draw more people onto their platform. And in doing so, they’re creating a false sense of hope and unrealistic expectations for aspiring content creators.
I mean, let’s be real here. Mr. Beast’s content is not groundbreaking. It’s not revolutionary. It’s not even particularly entertaining, in my opinion. It’s just a guy with a lot of money doing some random acts of kindness and documenting it for the whole world to see. And yet, somehow, he’s the most watched person on YouTube. It just doesn’t add up.
It’s almost as if Mr. Beast has become the face of YouTube, the symbol of what can be achieved on the platform. And while it’s great that he’s found success, it’s also a little disheartening to think that this is what YouTube is promoting as the epitome of content creation. It’s as if they’re saying, “This is what you need to be doing in order to be successful on our platform. This is the bar you need to reach.” Indeed I believe this is the same thing that happened with the Kardashians via Instagram. Think about it just look at their content what do they do that warrants those views, it makes no sense until you open your eyes and recognise what the platforms are basically up to.
But it shouldn’t be this way. Content creation should be about creativity, originality, and passion. It should be about creating something that resonates with your audience, something that they can’t get enough of. It shouldn’t be about giving away money or doing outrageous stunts just for the sake of views and likes.
I don’t blame Mr. Beast for this. He’s just doing what he enjoys, and he’s found a way to make it wildly successful. But I do blame YouTube for perpetuating this idea that this is the only way to achieve success on their platform. It’s misleading, it’s disingenuous, and it’s setting up thousands of aspiring content creators for disappointment and frustration.
So, in conclusion, I don’t understand the allure of Mr. Beast. I don’t understand how he’s become the most watched person in the world on YouTube, when his content isn’t exactly mind-blowing or addicting. And I don’t understand why YouTube is using him as their poster child for success on their platform. It’s time for a change. It’s time for YouTube to start promoting genuine creativity and originality, rather than just the ability to give away money and do outrageous stunts. It’s time for a new face of real talent success on YouTube. And it’s time for aspiring content creators to start demanding more from the platform that they call home.
